What is BroadBand Light Therapy?
BroadBand Light (BBL) therapy with the Forever Young BBL™ uses regenerating technology to improve the aesthetics of the skin and also makes it appear more youthful and smoother. It works by employing therapeutic-grade light energy that mildly warms the skin and stimulates collagen production. People with a variety of skin conditions may benefit from BBL because it treats sun damage, unwanted freckles, rosacea, and broken blood vessels. It also helps brighten and soften the skin to create a younger-looking complexion. We can combine BBL with other aesthetic treatment options to meet your cosmetic needs and goals. To help rejuvenate our patients' skin, the JEM Medspa team in Elmhurst and Orland Park, IL proudly offers BBL as an effective and safe procedure.

A good candidate for BBL is any individual who experiences hyperpigmentation or rough skin. These symptoms happen because of various skin conditions, such as acne, sun damage, damaged capillaries, or rosacea. BBL also makes the skin look younger by stimulating the production of collagen. By personalizing the types of filter and modality used, we can use BBL for a variety of skin conditions. Before receiving treatment, we will discuss how BBL technology might help you attain your cosmetic goals.
How Does BBL Work?
After customizing your treatment plan, we adjust the BBL device settings to fit your unique needs. Before beginning the procedure, patients receive protective eyewear to shield their eyes from the bright light. Next, one of our team members will gently move the laser over your skin while concentrating on the treatment areas. The amount of time necessary for your BBL treatment depends on your skin condition and if we added other procedure options. Generally, we can complete BBL procedures in about an hour or less.
What to Expect
Following your treatment session, we will apply a soothing cream to your skin. You will receive detailed aftercare instructions, and we highly recommend avoiding excess sun exposure. Usually, patients can return to their daily routines after the treatment. Within 2 – 6 weeks, patients can see results from BBL, but the best results occur after multiple BBL treatments. During your consultation, one of our expert team members will discuss your cosmetic goals and determine how many follow-up appointments you may need.
BroadBand Light Therapy FAQ
How much does BBL cost?
One of our team members will be able to talk about your costs during your consultation when your BBL treatment plan has been created. Your costs will depend on where you want to get the treatment, the treatment area(s) size, and the number of appointments you need. Once a member of our team assesses the health of your skin and understands your goals, they will help you create your custom treatment plan. JEM MedSpa often runs specials on treatments like BBL — so watch our website or ask about current deals when you make your appointment.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of BBL sessions needed can be estimated during your consultation as soon as a member of our team assesses the condition of your skin. On average, patients reach their complexion goals after three appointments. Although, if you have serious sun damage, discoloration, or pigmentation, you may require more sessions. During your consultation, your team member will listen to your goals and create your custom treatment plan. Your appointments will be spaced about 3 – 4 weeks apart to allow your skin to recover.
What areas can be treated with BBL?
All areas of skin may be improved with BBL; however, some of the most popular areas are the face, neck, chest, hands, shoulders, and back. These are the areas that tend to have the most visible damage since they're frequently exposed to the sun. The face, neck, and hands are also most often affected by natural aging and lifestyle, so addressing these areas may help improve your overall appearance. During your consultation with a member of our team, tell them about all concerns so they can create a comprehensive treatment plan.
How is BBL different from other lasers?
Made by Sciton, the innovative BroadBand Light is a high-powered IPL (intense pulsed light) skin treatment. The wide range of energy wavelengths and dual lamps allow our team members to customize your treatment for your skin goals. Utilizing varying wavelengths, BBL can improve brown and red lesions, plus dark and light spots, without harming nearby skin and tissues. Safe and effective, BBL can give you a better complexion faster than many other laser skin treatments.
Is BBL safe for all skin tones?
The energy wavelengths in a BroadBand light treatment can be adjusted for each patient's unique needs, so BBL is safe and effective on all skin tones. For best results, your team member will suggest you avoid ultraviolet (UV) light exposure (both tanning beds and natural sunlight ) for at least two weeks before your appointment. Tanned skin has higher levels of pigment (melanin), which may absorb the BBL energy and impact your outcome. The treated areas will be especially sensitive to UV light, so you need to continue to limit your sun exposure and not use tanning beds throughout your treatment and for a minimum of two weeks following your last treatment.
