Following microneedling, your skin might appear red and slightly swollen. Within 3 – 5 days, your skin will start to peel. If your skin feels dry or itchy during the peeling phase, it is generally safe to apply a gentle moisturizer or cleanser to help hydrate your skin. Whatever moisturizer you decide to use, we recommend running it by a member of our team to ensure the ingredients will not cause any side effects.

If you are interested in learning more about microneedling, schedule a consultation with our aesthetics team at JEM Medspa in Orland Park or Elmhurst, IL. A member of our team will meet with you to discuss what you can expect from microneedling and help you determine if it's the right choice for your skin care needs.

All about microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation treatment that uses many fine needles to create minor injuries in the skin. Following treatment, during the healing process, your body’s production of elastin and collagen will increase. Microneedling minimizes the appearance of large pores and eases the appearance of acne scarring and fine lines.

Patients can easily combine microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP).

The benefits of microneedling include;

  • Smoothes away fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improves the appearance of skin
  • Shrinks enlarged pores
  • Minimizes hyperpigmentation and sun damage
  • Treats stretch marks

Microneedling is safe for almost all skin tones and types. It can be carried out on the face, neck, thighs, arms, chest, and lower legs. However, if you have a skin infection or an open wound, then you’ll need to wait to undergo the procedure until your skin heals.

What happens during microneedling

Microneedling takes only about 30 – 60 minutes to complete. A numbing cream or local anesthesia is applied to the skin to reduce any discomfort. Our team will thoroughly clean your skin. A handpiece is passed evenly over the treatment areas to make the micro-injuries. At this point, you can also combine microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) or a vitamin-infused serum to ensure that it reaches deep into your skin’s layers for enhanced results.

Following microneedling, your skin is sensitive to the sun, so a member of our team at JEM Medspa in Orland Park or Elmhurst, IL will massage sunscreen into your skin for further protection.

What happens after microneedling?

Your face will appear red, and there might be slight swelling, but this will subside in a day. In around 3 – 5 days, your skin might begin to peel. At this time, you can apply gentle moisturizers and cleansers to help hydrate your skin. It usually takes about 1 – 2 months to start to notice an improvement in your skin as your body starts to produce collagen and elastin. We will usually schedule 4 – 6 follow-up treatments spaced about 4 – 6 weeks apart.
