Will I Need Compression Garments After CoolSculpting® Treatment?
You may have heard about the use of CoolSculpting to sculpt specific areas of the body. While it's not a weight loss surgery, it does destroy targeted fat cells to help you achieve a trimmer profile.
At JEM Medspa, our team helps patients in Elmhurst and Orland Park, IL attain their aesthetic goals with advanced CoolSculpting technology. Keep reading to find out what recovery looks like after this noninvasive process and if you'll need a compression garment to help you get the best results.
How does CoolSculpting work?
CoolSculpting is a nonsurgical body contouring procedure that uses controlled cold to freeze and get rid of unwanted fat cells. The CoolSculpting device applies controlled cooling to the targeted area. The fat cells in the treated area are cooled to a temperature that causes them to crystallize and die while the surrounding tissue remains unharmed. Over time, your body naturally processes the fat and removes the dead cells, resulting in a reduction of fat in the treated area.
The procedure can target visible fat bulges under the chin (submental) and under the jawline, as well as on the thighs, abdomen, flanks, upper back, buttocks, and upper arm.
What is recovery like after CoolSculpting?
The procedure is generally considered safe and has minimal side effects. Some patients may experience mild discomfort, numbness, tingling, or redness in the treated area, but these symptoms usually resolve quickly.
After the procedure, the treatment area may feel swollen and firm to the touch. This is normal and will typically subside within a few days to a week. While most patients do not experience significant pain or discomfort, the JEM Medspa team may recommend over-the-counter pain medication if needed.
The results of the treatment can be seen in as little as three weeks, but it may take several weeks or months for the full effects to be visible.
Some patients need follow-up treatments to achieve their desired results. The number of treatments needed varies from person to person and depends on the individual's goals and the area being treated. Most people generally see the best results after 2 – 3 treatments.
Additionally, it's important to maintain a healthy diet and exercise program to ensure the best results. It's also important to note that CoolSculpting is not a permanent solution, and if you gain weight after the procedure, you can gain new weight in that area, and the results may be uneven.
Will I need to wear a compression garment after CoolSculpting treatment?
CoolSculpting recovery typically does not require a medical-grade compression garment. However, in some cases, you may want to wear compression clothing (something snug but not too tight, such as SPANX) to help reduce swelling or provide support to the treatment area. Wearing a compression garment can also help to minimize discomfort.
After CoolSculpting, a compression garment can be worn for a few days or weeks after the procedure. But it's best to ask your JEM Medspa practitioner what they recommend and get more specific instructions based on your treatment.
