What is Microblading?

Even though they don't get much attention, eyebrows are an important facial feature that could either hurt or help your overall appearance. A set of strong, well-groomed eyebrows will define and enhance your eyes. For patients who have sparse or thin eyebrows because of aging, genetics, or overplucking, microblading is a nonsurgical procedure that can help you attain beautiful, natural eyebrows. Using a special semi-permanent ink, our skilled technicians fill in and define your eyebrows. Schedule a consultation at JEM Medspa in Elmhurst or Orland Park, IL to learn more about microblading and to develop a personalized treatment plan.

Ideal Candidates

Providing long-lasting and natural results, microblading is a good choice for patients who prefer a more defined or fuller appearance to their eyebrows. Usually, many clients who undergo microblading have less-defined eyebrows with small parts that they wish to fill in. Thin eyebrows or bald spots are often caused by scars, genetics, overplucking, injuries, nutritional deficiencies, and aging. Unlike tattooed eyebrows, microblading creates more natural-looking results, providing full coverage or filling in small sections of the brows. Also, for a better shape, we can use microblading to contour the eyebrows. Unfortunately, we do not recommend this treatment for patients who are pregnant or who have severe diabetes (high blood sugar levels can compromise the healing process).

Our Microblading Technique

Before your microblading session, we will complete a consultation to discuss your cosmetic concerns and determine if this procedure is right for you. Based on the needs, we will create a unique microblading treatment plan. The treatment plan will outline when to schedule your follow-up appointments and how often. Using local anesthesia or numbing cream to reduce any discomfort, we perform the treatment in our office. Based on the size of the treatment area, the microblading session can take about 1 – 3 hours. To start the treatment, we will comb and trim your eyebrows. Next, we will mark your eyebrow with a pen, which helps us properly place the microblading ink. To give you natural-looking results that match your eyebrow hairs, JEM Medspa selects professional-quality inks.

What to Expect

Immediately after your microblading session, you can leave our office and resume your daily activities. You may have some redness around the eyebrows; however, this usually goes away in a few hours. Additionally, your brows may appear much darker right after the microblading process, but they will lighten to your desired shade in about two weeks. After your initial microblading treatment and to finalize eyebrow shape, we recommend that you schedule a second session in about a month. Generally, microblading results last about 1 – 2 years. To maintain your results, you will need to schedule follow-up treatments, but we will discuss how often during your consultation.
